Takashi Murakami - mixing the old and the new

Murakami is a fascinating artist and one who is particularly relevant for our young students. Just like the Pop Artists we often reference in our art lessons, Murakami can be seen as a natural extension to the fine art and commercial art overlap we see in Andy Warhol or Jeff Koons. With the contemporary context of the modern and vibrant creativity of Japan he updates some of the ideas of the Pop Artists while still referencing the traditional cultures he experienced growing up. The playfulness and bright colours, students will undoubtedly find appealing. I had a friend who used Murakami in Textiles with some great results.

Here's a worksheet I've made, paying particular consideration to kids in Learning in Lockdown. This is the PDF version. You can find the editable version here.
